60 Minutes in Tel Aviv...or 600?

Just another party day in Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is certainly making headlines these days...well, the fact that it's Israel's vacation capital is hardly front page news, but the people who have been protesting the high cost of housing by pitching tents on tony Rothschild Boulevard are turning parts of the city into a Mediterranean version of Berkeley circa 1969. So far the atmosphere is pretty festive.

That the attitude toward a blistering hot social issue is low-key in Tel Aviv should come as no surprise. This approach may have had a role in attracting the producers of CBS's '60 Minutes' to produce an upcoming piece on the city, as reported by various sources. These same sources say that the show will air a 12-minute segment on Tel Aviv, though the air date has not yet been made public.

Tel Aviv insiders say that one aspect of the show will focus on the Tel Aviv Gay Pride, a colorful, raucous affair that went down in June. In any case -- Les Moonves, can you hear me? -- 60 minutes are simply not enough to appreciate Tel Aviv's vibrancy. In fact, I would recommend no fewer than 600.
