Hamat Tiberias was named for its thermal springs (Hamat is the Hebrew word for heat). Today it is famed for its ruins of a first-century synagogue which includes an elaborate third-century mosaic floor. Lesser known are the remains of the ancient spa that was so popular in antiquity. You can visit the spa ruins, though portions are currently under renovation.
